Firestarter Spotlight - Zelene Tapia
Congratulations to Zelene Tapia on receiving Firestarter!
Zelene Tapia was chosen as a Firestarter because of her excellence, positive attitude and her active participation. Zelene works in the coding department as a coder. “She is always looking to gain more knowledge by asking questions, staying up to date with policies and learning new things from her peers,” said her nominator, Navid Fergoso.
Zelene always has a smile on her face and enjoys brightening up someone else’s day. “In the past she has sent coffee to all the PSR’s in Connell to show appreciation towards them for all their hard work.”
Along with these amazing attributes, Zelene is active in Positive Pulse, our Employee Wellness Program, events. She is ready to help with any event right after she gets off of work. She doesn’t ask questions, she just starts helping where help is needed. She always ensures that everyone is having a great time.
Zelene is someone you can depend on, as a coworker and a friend.

When did you start at CBHA?
I started at CBHA on August 29th, 2016.
What is your title and job duties?
My duties as a Coder consist of coding Medical, Dental, Eye Care, MSS,
and Behavioral Health visits. Also answering any pricing related questions
from PSR’s, MA’s, or patients.
What do you like best about working for CBHA?
I like how committed CBHA is to the community and the company’s mission.
How has CBHA helped you in your career development?
I started working as a PSR in Connell in 2016. There I gained so much
knowledge about the programs we use and learned that a PSR does so much
more than just register patients (it’s not as easy as it seems).
I was lucky enough to get a position as an Accounting Clerk at the Othello
Clinic in 2018 and loved every minute of it. I got the opportunity to
work as a Coder in 2019 and got my certification within 6 months of being
in the position. All thanks to CBHA!
What has been your favorite project at work so far?
Learning how to code for telehealth and telemedicine services. Even though
it has been challenging, COVID-19 has changed how we do business and opened
the doors to treating our patients virtually.
What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
I enjoy being a Coder and am part of a wonderful team. Life is great,
I have no complaints!
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
I hate to drive, for that reason, I didn't get my driver's license
until I was 23!
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
If I wasn't a coder, I would be a radiology technician.
Favorite travel spot?
I would have to say Maui, since I went there for my honeymoon 6 years ago.
When you have 30 minutes of free-time outside of work, how do you pass the time?
I love to read books, catch up on shows or movies, and believe it or not,
mow the lawn.
Anyone you would like to thank or final words?
I would like to thank Jonathan Madera since he gave me the opportunity
to work at CBHA and Navid Fregoso for being my moral support since day
one. Also, all of the other amazing supervisors I’ve had including
my current one. I feel blessed! And my coworkers, they make me want to
come to work every day always with a smile on my face.
