Protect What Matters Most: Stay Up-to-Date on Vaccines
You have the power to protect yourself and your loved ones from serious diseases, just by staying on schedule with your vaccines. During World Immunization Week (April 24, 2025 – April 30, 2025), we want to take the time to highlight the importance of getting recommended vaccines at every stage of life.
Whether you're a parent, expecting a baby, or an adult keeping your health in check, now is the perfect time to make sure you and your family are protected.
FOR CHILDREN:
Vaccines are a top priority no matter the time of the year. We want to help protect your kids from preventable diseases that can have serious health consequences, and vaccines are the right way to do that.
"We want to protect your babies from birth and build on that throughout the years as they grow
up," says Dr. Gabe Barrio, Pediatrician. "If all immunizations are done according to the CDC's recommended schedule, a child is fully immunized by the time they reach school age."
Key Vaccines for Kids Include:
Flu Vaccine: Every year, starting at 6 months
DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis): 2, 4, 6, and 15–18 months
MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 12–15 months (and 6–11 months before international travel)
Varicella (Chickenpox): 12–15 months
Polio (IPV): 2, 4, and 6–18 months
Hepatitis A & B: Series starting shortly after birth through 18 months
Hib & PCV13: Series between 2–15 months
Rotavirus: Series starting at 2 months (based on vaccine brand)
FOR PREGNANT MOMS:
Vaccines are a simple way to protect both you and your baby. By staying current before and during pregnancy, you help give your newborn the best start at life.
Recommended Vaccines:
MMR: At least one month before pregnancy
Tdap: During the third trimester of each pregnancy
Flu Shot: Annually, ideally by the end of October
FOR ALL ADULTS:
Vaccinations don’t stop after childhood. Adults need to stay up to date to protect themselves (and those around them) from serious illnesses.
Key Vaccines for Adults:
Td or Tdap: Every 10 years
Flu Shot: Annually
Pneumococcal Vaccines: For adults 65+ or with certain conditions
You might need additional vaccines depending on your health history, travel plans, job, or lifestyle. "If you aren’t sure where you stand, talk to your healthcare provider. We’ll help you get back on track," says Dr. Barrio.
