Meet Gilbert Lara Candido, this month’s Firestarter!

Since joining CBHA in 2014, Gilbert has been a passionate advocate for healthcare access and a trusted resource for our community. From his work on the Apple Health Expansion to his tireless support at local events, Gilbert's dedication to helping others has made a lasting impact.

When did you start at CBHA?

I started October 27^th, 2014.
 

What is your job title and day-to-day responsibilities?

I’m a PSR Certified and my day to day responsibilities are helping patients enroll in Apple Health or Qualified Health Plans through the Washington Health Benefit Exchange. I also help them apply for our sliding fee scale as well as provide out-reach to our communities.
 

What is your favorite thing about working at CBHA?

I love our culture! I enjoy the responsibility of compliance and effective communication demonstrates good team work and productivity.
 

How has CBHA helped you grow in your career?

CBHA has provided me with professional development opportunities through training programs, RELIAS, projects and especially outreach events. Each task has allowed me to acquire news skills and knowledge that has helped me grow at CBHA.
 

What has been your favorite project at work so far?

My favorite project so far I want to say was the Apple Health Expansion for patients with no legal status. It opened in June of 2024 for only 13,000 patients in the state and I was really excited to help everyone that interested to apply.
 

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Magical healing power, to help all kinds of people with their difficult situations and pains.
 

How do you turn a bad day into a good one?

Always having a positive attitude and listening to my favorite kind of music to relax.
 

What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?

I always wanted to be a teacher then a music producer.
 

Where is your favorite place to travel?

Mexico, my hometown Guanajuato to visit family and friends.
 

If you could be any Disney Character which one would you be?

I would like to be Mickey Mouse because of his kindness, optimism and adventurous.
